Android Auto: Smarter EV Routing and Autoplay Control

1 min read

Android Auto is rolling out a significant update in the US, leveraging AI to provide tailored travel solutions for over 350 electric vehicle (EV) models across 16 major brands.

Personalized EV Route Planning

The standout feature is a deeply integrated route planner that moves beyond basic charger searches. By utilizing vehicle-specific data—such as battery size and vehicle weight—combined with real-time variables like traffic, road elevation, and weather, the system can now predict exactly when and where you need to recharge.

How to Enable It:

  • Open Google Maps on your phone.
  • Tap your profile and navigate to Settings > Your vehicles.
  • Enter your engine and vehicle details.
  • When starting a trip in Android Auto, you can now input your current battery level for precise AI calculations.

Smarter Media Management

Beyond EV tech, Google is addressing a common user frustration: unwanted media autoplay. While a manual toggle already exists in settings, the dashboard now includes an intelligent shortcut. If you manually stop media from playing three times in a row, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to disable autoplay entirely. This update makes it easier to keep your car quiet upon entry without digging through deep sub-menus.

These features are currently rolling out to US users across brands, including Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
