Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold has a new release date: February 23, 2027. The expansion was previously planned for January. Players who qualify for early access can begin on February 19, while preorders open on November 4.
The revised dates now appear on Square Enix’s official Evercold website. For players arranging time off or planning a return with friends, those are the dates to use.
The change also gives returning players more time to finish their story quests. An expansion purchase alone does not place a character at the start of its new adventure. Account access, story progress and the right platform licence still matter.
The three dates to keep
November 4 is the preorder opening, February 19 is early access, and February 23 is the full launch. These are separate milestones. Preordering does not let players enter the expansion immediately, and early access remains subject to eligibility requirements.
The official product page says players need the paid version of Final Fantasy XIV and an active subscription. A free trial account cannot simply add Evercold and continue as a trial player.
Early access also requires Dawntrail registration and the relevant main scenario progress. Anyone returning after a long break should check both before organising a launch group. Having the software installed is only one part of being ready.
Evercold includes access to Endwalker and Dawntrail. However, players should follow the activation rules for their chosen store and platform. A Windows purchase, a Steam purchase and a console purchase are not interchangeable shopping choices.
That makes the next few months a useful preparation period. Check the account you actually play on, confirm your current story quest, and work out how much remains. Those steps are more useful than buying quickly and discovering a licence mismatch later.
Two jobs with different approaches
The new Bastion and Zephyr jobs give players two new roles to explore. Bastion is a tank. Its identity centres on the Skyltborg greatshield and aether-powered artillery, with roots in Aerslaent in the Northern Empty.
Zephyr fills the physical ranged damage role. It combines a crossbow with an avian familiar and draws its background from the mountains of northwestern Ilsabard. The two jobs therefore offer very different fantasies before players even reach their first encounter.
Both new jobs use Evolved Mode. Square Enix distinguishes that system from Reborn Mode, which builds on the current combat approach. Limited jobs fall outside both modes, so players should avoid assuming every existing job follows the same rules.
A tank and a ranged damage dealer also create different decisions for a regular party. Someone interested in Bastion may need to discuss role changes with their group. A Zephyr player will have a different place in that same party composition.
The job descriptions explain their themes, but they do not replace experience with the final rotations. Choosing a favourite now is easy. Deciding which one suits a long-term routine will take actual play, especially with a wider battle-system change arriving alongside them.
A new reflection and a wider reset
Evercold takes the Warrior of Light to the icebound Fourth reflection, with the Solstice forming part of the threat. The expansion raises the level cap from 100 to 110 and introduces new places, encounters and progression systems.
Square Enix is also changing how players earn rewards through seasons. An Armoury update aims to make playing multiple jobs easier. These systems may affect everyday play more often than the opening story hours do.
Other announced features include broader character customisation and adjustable action animations. Players will eventually be able to choose the order of certain story areas after reaching a particular point. Selected areas will also use automatic balancing for characters at different levels.
These details make Evercold more than a new destination on the map. The key question is how its systems work together. A player who enjoys several jobs will judge the expansion differently from someone focused on one role and one raid team.
Square Enix cautions that some features will arrive through later updates. Its feature list should therefore be read as an expansion roadmap, rather than a promise that every listed activity appears on February 23.
What returning players can do before launch
The recent Patch 7.56 notes provide a useful starting point for catching up. They cover further main scenario developments involving the Solstice and Halmarut, alongside the Beastmaster limited job and other changes.
Players should treat that current content separately from Evercold’s two new jobs. Beastmaster is already part of a different progression path. Its restrictions also mean it cannot stand in for an ordinary job across every activity.
The official Beastmaster guide lists a starting level of one and a current cap of 50. Unlocking it requires Dawntrail, a level 50 Disciple of War or Magic, and completion of The Ultimate Weapon.
It shares equipment with Monk and Samurai, but its limited-job status changes where it can participate. Duty roulettes, deep dungeons, PvP and Ultimate duties are among the restricted activities. Players looking for a normal matchmaking role should keep those limits in mind.
For a returning group, the practical priority is still shared story progress. Compare where everyone stopped before picking extra activities. A relaxed catch-up plan leaves room for optional content without turning the weeks before launch into another deadline.
Check the edition before ordering
The product listings separate the expansion, digital collector bonuses and physical merchandise. In particular, the collector’s box sold on its own does not include the game. A large physical package is not automatically a complete software purchase.
Preorder rewards include a Wind-up Köttr minion and Halone’s Earring. The earring’s experience bonus applies to enemy defeats for eligible combat classes between levels one and 100. It should not be read as a universal boost to every source of experience.
Buyers choosing a physical collection should read the platform notes closely. The bundle and standalone box serve different needs, and some players must buy their digital edition separately through the relevant platform store.
The release change gives fans a clearer calendar, but the best preparation remains straightforward. Confirm the right licence, finish the required quests, and decide which job you want to bring into the Fourth. Keep February 19 for eligible early access and February 23 for the full release.
