Google Docs Introduces AI-Powered Summaries

1 min read

If you frequently use Google Docs, there's an exciting update to check out. Google has started rolling out a new AI-powered building block within Docs, powered by Gemini. This feature introduces an automatic summary tool designed to streamline workflows.

Building blocks have been available in Google Docs for some time, offering tools like Meeting notes, Email drafts, and Decision logs. However, this new addition stands out by generating a quick, editable summary of a document’s contents. It is especially useful for shared documents, helping to address the common issue of long texts being overlooked.

Using the feature is simple:

  1. Click Insert
  2. Select Building Blocks
  3. Choose AI Summary

Alternatively, typing '@' followed by 'summary' directly in the document will also generate a summary.

If changes are made to the document, Google has accounted for that. A refresh icon appears when hovering over the summary, allowing users to update it with a single click. This feature ensures that summaries stay relevant as content evolves.

With this AI-powered tool, Google Docs enhances productivity by offering a quick way to grasp key points without reading through lengthy documents.
