Nigeria’s Super Eagles soared into the AFCON 2025 semi-finals with a clinical 2-0 victory over Algeria at the Grand Stadium in Marrakesh. Despite dominating the first half, Nigeria remained scoreless until the second-half restart when Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock.
The Galatasaray striker, continuing his blistering form, found the net in the 47th minute with a powerful header from a Bruno Onyemaechi cross. This marked his fourth goal in as many games. Just before the hour mark, Osimhen turned playmaker, unselfishly squaring the ball for Akor Adams to tap in the second. Adams, the Sevilla forward, showed great composure to round goalkeeper Luca Zidane and put the result beyond doubt.
Algeria, featuring stars like Riyad Mahrez, struggled to find their rhythm and failed to register a single shot in the opening 45 minutes. Nigeria’s defense remained resilient throughout, and the team nearly added a third when Adams hit the post late in the game.
The Super Eagles are now the tournament’s top scorers with 14 goals. This victory sets up a high-octane semi-final clash against the hosts, Morocco, in Rabat this Wednesday. As Nigeria chases a fourth continental crown, their attacking duo appears to be hitting peak form at the perfect moment.
