The deadlock finally broke in the 57th minute when Gabriel Magalhaes headed in a superb Declan Rice free-kick. This goal ignited a devastating 14-minute spell for the Gunners.
Gabriel Martinelli quickly doubled the lead with a curled finish after a driving run from Myles Lewis-Skelly. Striker Viktor Gyokeres then ended his seven-game goal drought, first by bundling in a close-range effort, and three minutes later, converting a knockdown from Gabriel following another dangerous corner.
The dominant performance resulted in a 4-0 thrashing of the usually solid Atletico side, extending Arsenal’s winning streak and their clean sheet record in the competition.
