Atalanta clinched the Europa League title, ending Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive 51-game unbeaten streak. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team made a strong statement early on, capitalizing on a corner. Though Leverkusen initially cleared the ball, David Zappacosta maneuvered it back into the box and found Ademola Lookman, who scored the opening goal.
Buoyed by the early lead, Atalanta’s high-intensity pressing overwhelmed Leverkusen. Lookman tormented defender Edmond Tapsoba and netted a second goal by cutting inside and curling a right-footed shot in the 26th minute. He completed his hat-trick in the second half, finishing a counterattack with a powerful strike into the top corner after receiving a pass from Gianluca Scamacca.
With Leverkusen unable to respond, Atalanta secured their first European trophy.
