The goal-fest started in the seventh minute when Willian Pacho headed PSG ahead. Leverkusen were awarded a penalty for an Illia Zabarnyi foul on Claudio Echeverri, but Alejandro Grimaldo’s shot hit the post. Seven minutes later, Leverkusen captain Robert Andrich was sent off for elbowing Desire Doue. PSG’s numerical advantage was short-lived, however, as Zabarnyi received a straight red for dragging down Christian Kofane, and Aleix Garcia converted the subsequent penalty.
Despite the setback, PSG went on a goal spree before halftime. Doue scored twice with sharp and low-curling finishes, sandwiching a strike from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia that went in off both posts, giving PSG a commanding 4-1 lead at the break.
In the second half, Nuno Mendes fired in PSG’s fifth after a through ball from Vitinha. Garcia pulled one back for Leverkusen with an audacious 30-yard strike. However, Ousmane Dembele marked his return from injury by tapping in the sixth goal just three minutes after coming off the bench, and Vitinha completed the rout in the 90th minute with a low effort, sealing the 7-2 victory. This dominant European performance comes despite recent struggles in Ligue 1.
