Brighton dominated Chelsea with a commanding 3-0 victory, highlighted by Kaoru Mitoma’s stunning opener and a brace from Yankuba Minteh. Despite controlling possession, Chelsea failed to register a single shot on target, with Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s only save coming from his own teammate, Adam Webster.
Verbruggen played a key role in the first goal, delivering a 70-yard pass that Mitoma expertly controlled before cutting inside Trevoh Chalobah and curling a precise shot into the far corner. The Japanese winger, who recently rejected a £54m move to Al-Nassr, added another spectacular goal to his collection.
Minteh extended Brighton’s lead in the 38th minute, coolly sidestepping Marc Cucurella before slotting past Filip Jorgensen. The young winger sealed the win in the 63rd minute after linking up with Danny Welbeck and firing a deflected shot past the Chelsea keeper.
Chelsea’s night worsened with Noni Madueke’s injury, and Joao Pedro missed chances to deepen their misery. The loss keeps Chelsea in fourth, but their position looks increasingly vulnerable.
