Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Hungarian midfielder struck in the 83rd minute with a sensational free kick from 30 yards, curling the ball over the wall and into the top corner beyond David Raya. It was a strike worthy of deciding a clash that had, until then, been tight and cagey, with both sides missing chances.
Arsenal, who haven’t won at Anfield since 2012, started brightly and pushed Liverpool deep in the first half, but Mikel Arteta’s side could not convert their possession into goals. Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo went close for the Reds, while Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres tested Alisson at the other end.
The Gunners threw everything forward in stoppage time but found Liverpool’s defense, led by Virgil van Dijk, unyielding. The result means the defending champions make it three wins from three in the league, while Arsenal suffer their first defeat of the season.
