Arsenal staged a spirited comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield, after falling two goals behind in the first half. Liverpool dominated early, scoring twice in quick succession through Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, leaving Arsenal trailing and under pressure following their midweek Champions League semi-final defeat to PSG.
However, Arsenal fought back after the break. Gabriel Martinelli headed in from Leandro Trossard’s cross, and Mikel Merino leveled the score, nodding in after Martin Odegaard’s shot hit the bar. The match grew tense as Arsenal were reduced to 10 men when Merino received a second yellow card for a late challenge.
Liverpool thought they had snatched a late winner when Andy Robertson bundled the ball in from a corner in stoppage time, but it was ruled out due to a foul by Ibrahima Konate. Arsenal held firm in the closing moments, securing a valuable point. However, their Champions League hopes remain in the balance, with third-placed Newcastle visiting next week just two points behind.
