United, who had lost six of their last seven league games against Brighton, seemed to be riding their luck in the first half. They benefited from some wasteful finishing by Brighton’s Danny Welbeck before capitalizing with two goals in 10 minutes.
Cunha scored the opener with a superb finish. This was quickly followed by a second goal from Casemiro, which took a harsh, fortunate deflection on its way in.
The victory means Rubén Amorim’s side have now won three consecutive games, propelling them, at least temporarily, into the top four of the league standings, a stark contrast to their torrid start to the season.
