Morocco launched their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-0 victory over Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium. Despite missing an early penalty through Soufiane Rahimi, the tournament favorites broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Brahim Diaz converted a cross from Noussair Mazraoui. The victory was cemented by substitute Ayoub El Kaabi, who executed a stunning overhead kick in the 74th minute to double the lead. The match began with a celebration as captain Achraf Hakimi was presented with the CAF African Footballer of the Year award, though he remained on the bench due to an ankle injury. Morocco dominated possession with 66 percent but faced frustration as Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor made several key saves throughout the night. An early injury to veteran defender Romain Saïss proved to be the only major setback for Walid Regragui’s side, who now look ahead to their next Group A fixture against Mali.
