Yesterday, the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals concluded with dramatic results as the final lineup was determined in Morocco. In the first match of the evening, the hosts faced Nigeria in a tense encounter in Rabat. Despite several scoring opportunities for both sides, the game remained 0-0 after 120 minutes of play. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the hero by saving two spot-kicks, allowing Youssef En-Nesyri to net the decisive penalty and send the Atlas Lions through with a 4-2 victory.
In the second semi-final held yesterday, Senegal secured their place in the final with a 1-0 victory over Egypt. Sadio Mane proved to be the difference-maker, striking the winning goal twelve minutes from full-time to end Egypt’s hopes of another title. Senegal dominated much of the possession, while Egypt struggled to register a single shot on target throughout the match.
As a result of yesterday’s action, Morocco will meet Senegal in the grand final this Sunday, January 18, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Nigeria will now take on Egypt in the third-place playoff on Saturday evening in Casablanca.
