Tottenham Hotspur have finally ended their 17-year trophy drought by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Brennan Johnson netted the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute, thanks to a slight deflection off Luke Shaw.
The second half saw Spurs under heavy pressure, with a crucial moment of brilliance from Micky Van de Ven, who leapt to clear Rasmus Hojlund’s header off the line and preserve their lead.
Son Heung-min will now become the first Tottenham captain since Ledley King in 2008 to lift silverware. Their victory also secures a spot in next season’s Champions League.
On the other hand, Manchester United’s struggles continue, as they miss out on European football altogether following their worst Premier League season to date.
