Google Discontinues Continuous Scrolling in Search Results
Google is discontinuing the continuous scrolling feature on search results, as reported by Search Engine Land. This feature, which allowed users to scroll endlessly through search results similar to social media feeds, was first introduced on mobile devices in October 2021 and later extended to desktop searches in late 2022.
A Google spokesperson informed Search Engine Land that continuous scrolling is being removed from desktop search results immediately, and the feature will be removed from mobile search results in the coming months.
Replacing continuous scrolling on desktops will be the classic pagination bar, which lets users jump to a specific page of search results or click “Next” to see more results. On mobile, users will see a “More results” button at the bottom of the search to load the next page.
Google stated that the change aims to deliver search results faster by not automatically loading additional results that users haven’t requested.
