How to use passkeys to secure your Google account

Passkeys have recently been introduced as a new, more secure way to protect your Google account. They’re considered safer than traditional passwords because they rely on your unique biometric data, like your fingerprint or facial recognition, to log in. This makes it much harder for someone to hack into your account.

Passwords can be easy to guess or steal, especially if you use the same one on multiple sites. Passkeys eliminate this risk since there’s no password to steal, making phishing attempts ineffective. Plus, you won’t have to worry about remembering complicated passwords anymore.

Setting up a passkey for your Google account is simple. Just follow these steps:

Quick Setup Steps

  3. Use your biometric data (fingerprint or facial recognition) to create your passkey.

Detailed Guide

  • Log in to your Google account and go to Account Settings.
  • Click on Security from the left-hand menu.
  • Scroll to How you sign in to Google and select Passkeys.
  • Click Create a passkey.

  • Find Skip password when possible and turn off the toggle.
