Microsoft Tests Autostart Feature for Windows Copilot in Latest Dev Channel Build.
Microsoft is currently experimenting with a new feature called Windows Copilot, set to launch automatically on widescreen devices in the Dev Channel when Windows starts up. This move is part of Microsoft’s strategy to increase exposure to Copilot, an artificial intelligence tool integrated into various Microsoft products.
However, the autostart feature is turned on by default, requiring users to manually disable it in Settings rather than using Task Manager. This approach is consistent with Microsoft’s recent practice of introducing preferences in new locations. Users can locate the toggle under Start > Settings > Personalization > Copilot.
It’s important to note that Copilot relies on internet connectivity, leading to potential communication delays. Despite functioning as an integrated Bing Chat with minimal Windows controls, Microsoft may enhance Copilot over time.
The broader update also brings USB 80 Gbps support, preparing the operating system for the forthcoming USB4 standard update. While the implementation of Copilot’s autostart feature may help increase user familiarity with the tool, Microsoft’s decision to enable it by default has garnered mixed reactions, prompting users to manually deactivate it if they prefer not to use it during Windows startup.
