Samsung’s One UI 8.5 Beta Brings Deeper Ecosystem Integration and Fortified Security

Samsung has officially unveiled the One UI 8.5 beta program, an extensive update for its mobile user interface designed to significantly boost productivity, connectivity, and privacy across the entire Galaxy device ecosystem. This beta, which is being made available first to owners of the Galaxy S25 series in select markets, introduces a wealth of new features and refined workflows.
The update greatly enhances content creation, particularly with Photo Assist, which now allows for continuous image editing without the interruption of saving each iteration. Users can now utilize generative AI tools to make multiple changes to a photo and then review a complete edit history to select their preferred final version, creating a much smoother and more efficient creative process. Sharing is also streamlined with an upgraded Quick Share feature that intelligently recognizes the people in photos and proactively suggests sending those images directly to the relevant contacts, eliminating the need for manual recipient selection.
A major focus of One UI 8.5 is cross-device integration, deepening the synergy within the Galaxy ecosystem. The new Storage Share feature allows users to access files, including documents and media, from other connected Galaxy devices like tablets, PCs, and even Samsung TVs, directly within the My Files app on their phone. This unified view significantly simplifies file management across a user’s entire hardware portfolio. Furthermore, the Audio Broadcast feature has been enhanced with Auracast technology, enabling users to broadcast their own voice through the phone’s microphone to nearby compatible speakers or earbuds, a function ideal for group events or giving tours.
Security receives robust upgrades to protect devices against theft and unauthorized access. New features like Failed Authentication Lock automatically activate to lock the device’s screen if someone enters too many incorrect login attempts using a fingerprint, PIN, or password. The existing Identity Check feature has also been expanded to safeguard a broader range of critical settings, preventing thieves from making changes even if they manage to acquire the device.
To participate in the beta program, users who own an eligible Galaxy S25 series device must download and sign up through the Samsung Members app. After registering, the beta software can be downloaded via the standard Software Update menu in the phone’s Settings. As always, users are strongly advised to back up their data before installing beta software due to the potential for bugs or instability.
