Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to introduce a long list of new features and gameplay mechanics. Based on recent developer previews and gameplay reveals, Rockstar is taking several parts of the series in a new direction.
Here are 10 of the biggest changes players can expect.
1. Dual Protagonists and Seamless Switching
GTA 6 features two main characters, Jason and Lucia. Players can switch between them while exploring the open world.
The system also works during certain action sequences. For example, one character can drive while the other takes control of the shooting.
2. A Deeper Relationship System
Jason and Lucia’s relationship plays an important role in the game. Players can spend time together through activities such as shopping, working out, and holding hands.
The way players treat each character can also affect their relationship and the story.
3. RPG-Style Survival Stats
GTA 6 brings back some ideas from GTA: San Andreas. Players will need to pay attention to their characters’ physical condition.
Eating can affect weight, while working out can change a character’s muscle build. Lack of sleep can also make characters look tired.
4. Vehicle Trunk Inventory
Players won’t be able to carry a huge collection of weapons at all times. Instead, GTA 6 uses vehicle trunks as extra storage.
Larger weapons, medical kits, and disguises can be stored in personal vehicles. This adds another layer to preparing for missions.
5. Non-Lethal Escapes
GTA 6 also introduces a suppressive fire mechanic. Players can fire near enemies without necessarily killing them.
This can help keep enemies pinned down during an escape. It may also help players avoid increasing their Criminal Profile during certain situations.
6. Improved Melee Combat
Hand-to-hand combat has received a major overhaul. Fights now include a stamina system, making it more important to manage your attacks.
Players can also tie up NPCs with zip ties and use them as human shields during certain encounters.
7. An In-Game Social Media Feed
Jason and Lucia can use their phones to browse a social media feed inside the game.
The feature brings GTA’s satire closer to the modern online world. Players can scroll through posts while exploring Leonida.
8. More NPC Interactions
NPC interactions are also getting more depth. Players can interact with many characters through contextual options.
Depending on the situation, players may be able to greet, taunt, provoke, or calm down people they encounter.
9. More Side Activities
GTA 6 is packed with activities outside the main story. Basketball returns, and some activities can affect character stats.
Players can also take part in backyard wrestling, scuba diving, kayaking, and airboat trips through the swamps. Wildlife can also be studied for a compendium.
10. A New HUD and Fast Travel System
GTA 6 features a redesigned HUD with a cleaner look. The game also uses a new 3D satellite-style mini-map.
Fast travel is another addition. Players can reportedly use a ride-share app called Ryde Me to move around the large state of Leonida.
These features give GTA 6 a deeper and more detailed gameplay system than previous games in the series. Rockstar appears to be putting more focus on character interaction, exploration, and the small details of everyday life in Leonida.
