Apple Reportedly Developing All-New Siri Chatbot for iOS 27

Apple is reportedly planning a significant shift in its artificial intelligence strategy by developing an all-new Siri chatbot for iOS 27. According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this project, internally known as Project Campos, aims to transform Siri into a direct competitor for advanced AI services like ChatGPT. While Apple executives previously emphasized that their goal was more than just building a chatbot, this latest move suggests a strategic pivot toward a more conversational and generative interface.
The upcoming Siri update is expected to leverage Google’s most powerful Gemini models and cloud infrastructure. This follows Apple’s earlier commitment to integrating Gemini into its Foundation Models for the iOS 26.4 update, which is slated for release in early 2026. That specific update is intended to make Siri more proactive, allowing it to understand on-screen actions and provide smarter, cross-app assistance with user permission.
However, the transition to using Google’s cloud servers has raised significant questions regarding Apple’s long-standing commitment to user privacy. Moving away from on-device processing or Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute could potentially undermine the brand’s core security promises. Reports also suggest that Apple is paying Google roughly one billion dollars annually to facilitate this partnership. As the competition in the AI space intensifies, Apple appears to be prioritizing competitive functionality to ensure Siri remains relevant in an era dominated by large language models.
