Bolt Expands into Egypt, Offering Competitive Incentives for Drivers

Bolt, the prominent ride-hailing platform, has initiated its services in Cairo, Egypt, intensifying competition with rivals such as Uber and inDrive.

According to Haitham Mansour, Bolt Egypt’s Country Manager, the company’s strategic expansion into Egypt underscores its commitment to strengthening its presence across the African continent.

In a departure from its standard commission rate, Bolt is enticing drivers with a unique incentive: a half-price discount for six months, with the company covering the entire cost. This move aims to attract and retain drivers by ensuring higher earnings compared to competitors.

This announcement follows Bolt’s recent expansion into Zimbabwe and Botswana, further solidifying its footprint in Africa.

Haitham emphasized the company’s commitment to providing both drivers and customers with favorable terms, stating, “By maintaining lower commissions than our competitors, we not only enhance driver earnings but also offer customers appealing service fees.”

Since initiating operations in South Africa in 2016, Bolt has expanded its reach to Egypt, marking its 15th market entry in Africa. This expansion builds upon Bolt’s successful ventures in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
