Google Democratizes AI Photo Editing for All

Google announced on Wednesday that it will make several AI-powered photo editing tools available for free to all users of Google Photos. These tools, including Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light, were previously exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One subscribers. The expansion will begin on May 15 and continue over the following weeks.

With the update, users will have access to features like Magic Eraser, which removes unwanted objects from photos, Photo Unblur for sharpening out-of-focus images, and Portrait Light for adjusting a photo’s lighting. Additionally, these features will now be accessible on Pixel tablets and more devices, with specific requirements for desktop and mobile users.

As part of the rollout, Google is also extending access to its Magic Editor tool to all Pixel devices. Users on Android and iOS will receive 10 Magic Editor photo saves per month, while Pixel device owners and premium Google One subscribers will enjoy unlimited saves. The Magic Editor utilizes generative AI to perform various photo edits, such as subject repositioning and sky color changes, creating new imagery seamlessly.
