Google’s ‘Find My Device’ Network Nears Launch

Google’s highly anticipated Find My Device network appears to be on the verge of launching soon, according to an email discovered by 9to5Google. In the email, Google notifies users that the feature will be activated in three days, utilizing data from millions of Android devices to locate missing phones and accessories. This functionality mirrors the tracking technology employed by Apple and Tile.

The email explains that the network can be utilized to locate compatible Fast Pair accessories, such as earbuds, headphones, and trackers, even when they are disconnected from the user’s device or offline. Users will receive a notification on their device once the feature is enabled, and they have the option to opt out of the network via the Find My Device web interface.

Initially announced at Google I/O in 2023, the expansion of the Find My Device network was delayed as Google awaited Apple’s implementation of unknown tracker alerts for all tracking devices, not just AirTags. However, with Apple preparing to adopt a broader anti-stalking specification in iOS 17.5, the launch of Google’s Find My Device network appears imminent. Some Android users have already begun to notice a new “Find your offline devices” setting in the latest Google Play Services beta, suggesting an official rollout may not be far off.
