Introducing Spotify’s Offline Backup: Keep the Music Going Without Downloads

Have you ever boarded a plane and realized you forgot to download your favorite playlist? Or maybe you want to save data on your mobile plan but still listen to your top tracks? Spotify has a solution for you. Starting today, Premium users can enjoy a new feature called Offline Backup, allowing you to listen to music offline—no downloads needed.

Offline Backup automatically creates a personalized playlist from your recently queued and streamed tracks. It pulls from songs already stored on your device through Spotify’s cache. The playlist updates as you listen, so there’s always fresh music to enjoy. You can even filter and sort songs by artist, mood, or genre to fit the vibe you’re after.

For those times when you forget to download your favorite tunes, Offline Backup makes sure you can still access your music without using extra data or storage. After successful testing last year, we’re excited to roll this out to Premium users worldwide. Offline Backup will be available on Android, iOS, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay starting this week.

How to Use Offline Backup:

  1. Offline Backup will show up on your Home feed whenever you’re offline.
  2. Make sure you’ve listened to at least five songs recently and enabled offline listening. You can find this setting under Data Saving and Offline or Storage.
  3. Add Offline Backup to Your Library for easy access at any time.
  4. If you can’t find the feature, update your Spotify app to the latest version.

With Offline Backup, our goal is to give you a seamless music experience wherever you are, even without an internet connection!
