Sony Developing PlayStation 5 Pro for Holiday 2024 Release

According to reports, Sony is in the works of developing a PlayStation 5 Pro, potentially featuring a GPU up to three times more powerful than existing models. Codenamed Trinity, leaked specifications suggest a significant boost in rendering performance, with around 67 teraflops of 16-bit floating point calculations. This could result in a 45% improvement over the current PS5, with a notable increase in ray tracing capabilities, potentially up to three times greater.

The leaked documents also mention PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), a technology rumored to utilize machine learning for image upscaling, akin to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. This feature may support upscaling to 8K resolutions and enhance ray tracing performance on the speculated PS5 Pro hardware.

While the reliability of the initial source, Moore’s Law is Dead, has been questioned, further validation comes from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who corroborates the leaked specifications. Reportedly, Sony’s first-party studios have been testing PS5 Pro devkits since September, with third-party developers gaining access in January. If accurate, Sony appears on track to meet the rumored release target of holiday 2024 for the ambitious PS5 Pro.
