Pep Guardiola’s team took an early lead in Lisbon with Phil Foden scoring in the fourth minute. However, Viktor Gyokeres unexpectedly equalized late in the first half, sparking a shift in momentum.
Sporting Lisbon quickly took command after the break, scoring twice in three minutes through Maximiliano Araujo and a Gyokeres penalty. Erling Haaland later missed a chance to close the gap when his penalty struck the bar. Gyokeres then completed his hat-trick with another penalty, sealing a 4-1 defeat for City—marking their first European loss of the season and third consecutive defeat overall.
