X Rolls Out Passkey Support on Android

X (formerly known as Twitter) has started rolling out support for passkeys on Android, after introducing them to iOS users in April. Passkeys enhance security by making it more difficult for hackers to access your account remotely, as they require physical access to your phone. Instead of using a traditional password, passkeys rely on Face ID, Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key for login.
Passkeys are a newer technology that eliminates the need for usernames and passwords, which are vulnerable to phishing attacks. X is joining other major tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, PayPal, TikTok, WhatsApp, and GitHub in adopting passkeys over the past year.
For X users, passkeys offer an added layer of security, especially after the platform removed SMS-based two-factor authentication (2FA) for free users last year.
To enable passkeys on X, log into the app, go to “Your account” in the navigation bar, then select “Settings and privacy.” From there, navigate to “Security and account access,” and then to “Security.” Under “Additional password protection,” choose “Passkey.” Click “Add a passkey” and follow the instructions to set it up.
