Manchester City began Enzo Maresca’s Premier League reign with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. Bournemouth took the lead in the first half when Marcus Tavernier finished from an Evanilson cross after City failed to deal with a bouncing ball.
City created several chances, with Erling Haaland missing a particularly good opportunity, while Marc Guéhi also went close. The hosts continued to push after the break and eventually found an equaliser in the 84th minute when Guéhi headed home from a Rayan Cherki corner.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Josko Gvardiol delivered the decisive moment in stoppage time. His goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR overturned the decision, sparking celebrations at the Etihad. The late comeback gave Maresca a winning start as Manchester City manager.
