Microsoft’s March Event: Unveiling AI-Powered Surface Devices

Microsoft’s upcoming digital event, “Advancing the new era of work with Copilot,” on March 21 may unveil new Surface devices, potentially the first branded as AI PCs. Former key presenter Panos Panay’s absence marks the second Windows hardware event without him.

Reports conflict about the event’s focus, with Windows Central suggesting OLED Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 launches while The Verge suggests a focus on business versions with subtle upgrades. The devices may feature Intel Core Ultra or Snapdragon X Elite chips with next-gen NPUs.

The Surface Pro 10 may switch to an anti-reflective OLED screen, while the Surface Laptop 6 could feature thinner bezels and a haptic touchpad. Business models may include a CAC reader and up to 64GB of RAM.

The consumer models are expected to usher in Windows 11 AI PCs with Copilot integration, real-time captioning, translation, and AI Explorer. AI Explorer could offer searchable device timelines and contextual assistance. These AI features might arrive in the fall’s Windows 11 update.
