YouTube Music Expands “Ask Music” AI Feature
YouTube Music’s AI-driven “Ask Music” feature, which allows users to create custom radio stations based on conversational prompts, is becoming more widely available, including internationally.
The feature first appeared on some accounts at the end of August, but today a new “Introducing Ask Music” notification invited users to “Turn any idea into a custom radio,” suggesting a broader launch is imminent. Available with YouTube Premium, the feature shows a sparkle icon, though Gemini is not specifically mentioned.
Users will see a purple card in their Home feed, similar to the “Create a radio” option or the summer recap banner. Tapping on it opens a full-screen chat interface where users can enter prompts like “80s inspired indie,” “Dreamy synthpop,” or “Saddest songs.” After processing for a few seconds, YouTube Music generates a playlist with a short title and description. The first track plays automatically, with options to save the playlist and provide feedback.
Recently, the feature has been rolled out in regions outside the U.S., including Canada and Australia, though it’s currently only available on Android, with no iOS support yet. Initially tested in the U.S. starting in July, the feature appears to be expanding globally for English-speaking users.
