Apple Releases macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 with Fixes

Apple has rolled out macOS Sonoma version 14.4.1, a targeted update aimed at addressing several issues introduced by the previous 14.4 release. The update includes fixes for specific problems reported by users and companies, such as USB hubs not being recognized when connected to external displays, issues with opening copy-protected Audio Unit plug-ins in professional music apps, and unexpected quitting of apps that include Java. These issues were noticed shortly after the release of macOS 14.4 earlier in the month, with reports surfacing on platforms like Reddit and Apple Support Communities forums. While some users also reported additional problems like broken printer drivers and deleted file revisions in iCloud Drive, these issues are not specifically addressed in Apple’s release notes for version 14.4.1.

In addition to these fixes, the update includes two security patches targeting “clickless” exploits that could lead to remote code execution after displaying a compromised image. Apple has also released macOS Ventura 13.6.6 to address the same security vulnerabilities for Macs that have not upgraded to Sonoma or are unable to do so.

Last week, Apple released minor updates for iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS to address the same security vulnerabilities. However, these updates did not list any specific non-security bug fixes in their release notes, beyond the standard mention of “important bug fixes and security updates” commonly included in such updates.
